Daffodil

April/May Bloom

My sunny days of Daffodils, oh how they make me so happy.

Daffodil flowers are known for their elongated trumpet surrounded by a ring of six floral peddles. The blooms last for about two weeks.  There traditional colors are light yellow to golden yellow and or white; however, breeders have developed pink and white varieties also.

Hyacinths

March/April Bloom

Talk about a great aromatic flower, my hyacinths always let me know they are in full bloom.

These fragrant flowers rise up and bloom in mid April with hundreds of small, bell shaped flowers clustering together all on one stem.  They come in blue, purple, pink, red, yellow and white.

Crocus

March/April Bloom

Nature is amazing!  Even after this extremely long and cold winter I can see my little crocuses have been thriving underneath all the snow we received this year.

This winter hardy flower that can withstand the fridge cold snow and temperatures of Northeast Ohio.  The grass like leaves of crocuses start appearing sometime in the middle of winter.  The delicate flowers bloom in early March and can come in white, purple and yellow.

Lenten Rose

February/March Bloom

I have tried to create my gardens to have color and texture all year long.  My first flowers start to come up when the snow is still falling some time in January, February and that is the Lenten Rose.

I think of the Lenten Rose as one of the first symbols of spring.  Seeing the green foliage coming up in the snow gives me hope and cures my cold winter blues.  This amazing little flower begins to bloom in late winter.

Welcome to Gardening 101 in Northeast Ohio

There are many gardening blogs out there, but my hope for this blog is for the gardeners and flower lovers of Northeast Ohio to have one place where we can come together and chat about what we are doing with our gardens and what is going on in our little corner of the world, a place to get ideas and advice.

Personally, when it comes to gardening, I'm a low maintenance, high performance, high color kind of girl. I like to enjoy a nice-looking landscape with my eyes and not my blood and sweat.  My busy schedule often does not allow the time needed to work in a landscape for hours a week, all season long.  I will share with you the plants that I have found that give a great landscape with the least amount of maintenance throughout the entire year.

I invite you to follow my agriculture journey all year long and give any gardening advice or tips of your own and even tell me what some of your favorites are.  Happy Gardening!
